What is Liquid Silicone?

Liquid silicone is like a thick, gooey liquid. It can be poured! But it’s not like water. It’s special. When it gets hard, it’s like rubber. We use it to make molds.1

What are Molds?

A mold is like a container. But it’s a special container! It has a shape inside. We pour liquid silicone into a box, and we add a toy. When the liquid silicone rubber gets hard, we take out the toy and then we have a mold!. Then, we can into that container shapes like candy or more toys!.

How Do We Use It?

1. Mix: We mix the liquid silicone. Some need to mix one part of A with one part of B1. It’s like mixing paint!
2. Pour: We pour it into a box. The box has the thing we want to copy.
3. Wait: We wait for it to get hard. Like waiting for cookies to bake!
4. Take it out: We take out the thing we copied. Now we have a mold!

Different Types of Liquid Silicone

There are different kinds of liquid silcone rubber.

• Tin Cure Silicone: This one is not as strong. It’s good for simple things.4

Making Molds Better

Sometimes, there are little bubbles in the liquid silicone. These are not good! They can make the mold not perfect.

We can use a special machine. It’s called a vacuum pump. It sucks out the air! No more bubbles.5 This makes the molds very smooth. Ninety out of one hundred, there were a lot of bubbles, and that is way too many bubbles, buy with the special machine, no more bubbles.
